[NEW LABEL / RELEASE] Up:Start Music 001 - d*FUNK 'Bust This EP' feat MC Manic
Introducing Up:Start Music the brand new digital label from freshly Breakspoll nominated d*FUNK. Up:Start aim is to release break beat led music in all guises from Hip Hop inspired break beat thru to tear out & some DnB. There will also be some jackin' house, electro & techno tracks, mainly in the form of remixes. The label will feature both new artists & some already well known names with 1 release planned every 5/6 weeks. So far from pre-release promos Up:Start has picked up support & great comments from the likes of Aquasky, Meat Katie, Jay Cunning (who played 'Bust This' 2nd track on his legendary Kiss FM breaks show this week), Mr No Hands, Flore, Jimmy Mofo, Cut La Roc & various others who are in the know...
d*FUNK has previously released music on the uber-cool Westway records & forward thinking electronic music label Nitrous records with his tracks already being played by Annie Nightingale on Radio One & both Jay Cunning & Terry Hooligan on Kiss FM. d*FUNK was nominated for this year 'Breakthrough DJ' category at Breakspoll as well as being the co founder & promoter of south coast breaks & eclectic beats night 'Break da House' in Bournemouth which is approaching it's 5th birthday. He's also recently been responsible for a few quite well received bootlegs given away free for the Nuskoolbreaks.co.uk massive...
So to the release.... d*FUNK 'Bust This EP' feat MC Manic. Up:Start Music 001.
The first releases from a brand new label can be a tricky affair, with the label wanting to get its music policy across in 1 swoop. Luckily that’s exactly what Up:Start have managed to achieve here with their debut release, Up:Start Music 001. First up of a 3 header EP is ‘Bust This’, a slick Dub inspired breaks number featuring the vocal talent of MC Manic. His trademark ruffneck vocal & clever lyrics sit perfectly on top of the rolling beats & bass. The track comes in the form of a full vocal version & dub, with some people already talking about this sounding perfect from the back of a float come carnival time.

The extra mix, ‘d*Funk’s Lowslung mix’, drops the tempo taking things into a more reggae inspired downbeat breaks area. Here Manic’s vocal sits over a huge analogue bass & funky, percussive drums. Definitely something different...

Next up is ‘Sonic Boom’ which switches the style up a little, taking a more techy direction. Solid beats lead into a tight distorted bass drop that sets the tone for the track. On the build up a squelchy lead takes hold, leading into clever switched up bass that carries the track through into the second drop where warm, Plump DJ esq bass floats over the airwaves. After a big build up everything kicks back in to the maximum. Cue mass hysteria…
'Sonic Boom' - d*FUNK (Original Mix)
‘Drop Out’ is the last (but by no means least) track of the EP which sits on a nu-skool kinda style breaks tip. Big fat beats & old-skool inspired percussion move the track along with the cheeky ‘Turn on, tune in, drop out’ vocal sitting proudly over the breakdown. Again the track is driven by large bass, with a speed garage inspired bass line popping up in the mid section of the track. Half way through a lovely wonky bass line drops in, that’s sure to get heads nodding & feet moving.
